Fil Ams mourn death of Michael Jackson
Filipinos in Las Vegas, Nevada are still in shock over the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
ABS-CBN North America News Bureau correspondent Bev Llorente reported to ANC’s Dateline Philippines that Jackson has had several productions with Las Vegas over the years.
Llorente said that the legendary king of pop was also a frequent visitor to the valley.
“Partly because several of his family members reside here in Las Vegas. That includes his mother, his sister LaToya and his dad Joe Jackson,” Llorente reported.
The Las Vegas Filipino American community is mourning and still in a state of shock after learning about the death of Jackson, 50.
“I spoke to several kababayans in the entertainment community in Las Vegas and they said that Jackson's contribution to music was not only an inspiration to many but a legacy that will continue to thrive in lounges and showrooms of the Las Vegas strip,” Llorente said.
Meanwhile, another ABS-CBN North America News Bureau correspondent Joseph Pimentel said that Jackson’s fans in Los Angeles also showed mixed emotions over the death of their idol.
“Shock, sadness, confusion and even joy are just some of the emotions that people are feeling here right now in Los Angeles,” Pimentel said.
Pimentel reported from the Mann Chinese Theater “where on the sidewalk is Michael Jackson’s Walk of Fame star”.
“There's already a mixture of memorial. I could see about a hundreds of fans who gathered up. Everybody is just taking pictures, there's a feeling of sadness but again joy as well because some are remembering a Michael Jackson for all of his contributions in music,” Pimentel said.
Jackson was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. at a hospital in Los Angeles after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest. He had been rehearsing in Los Angeles for the past two months in preparation for a series of concerts in London on July 13 until March 2010.
