The Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA) is asking for additional funds as more Filipino migrant workers return home due to the global economic crisis.

ANC’s Top Story reported Thursday that OWWA is calling on the national government to provide an additional P50 million to the Filipino expatriates livelihood support fund to help hundreds of displaced overseas Filipino workers.

OWWA Cordillera Regional Director Evelyn Laranang said in Cordillera alone, more than 300 laid off OFWs have returned to the province since February.

Most of them were factory workers in Taiwan and employees of Australia's mining industry.

Laranang added they are giving a P50,000 cash assistance to each retrenched workers but more funds are needed for the rising number of laid-off OFWs. Report from ANC's Top Story
