(Updated) Help assured for kin of OFW who died of H1N1 in HK
The Philippine government will assist in the repatriation of the remains of a Filipino domestic helper who died of A(H1N1) in Hong Kong.
“At the request of the family, the Consulate will be arranging the speedy repatriation of the remains and ensure that the next-of-kin receive all statutory and insurance benefits in due course.” Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong said in a statement.
Philippine Consul General Claro Cristobal reported the demise of the female worker identified as Dolores Peralta Bauzon by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). The 37-year-old native of Tarlac province was an active OWWA member, the agency said.
OWWA added that Bauzon arrived in Hong Kong on June 28 to work for a couple living in Kwun Tong when she developed flu-like symptoms the following day.
On July 7, Cristobal said the OFW was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and was admitted at the United Christian Hospital in Kowloon. Four days later, Hong Kong health officials confirmed her condition as “serious” A(H1N1) case.
“At ang kababayan nating ito ay inilagay sa life support noong ika-13 ng July,” Cristobal said.
The OFW passed away at 5:47 p.m. Monday. Her husband, Jaime Simbulan was aware of his wife’s condition and went to Hong Kong to be with her on July 24. He was at his wife’s bedside at the time of her death.
Cristobal said the OFW had worked in Hong Kong before. She went back to the Philippines to get married and recently gave birth.
“Sa katunayan ang kababayan nating ito ay dati nang namamasukan rito sa Hong Kong. Umuwi lamang upang magpakasal at sa katunayan siya ay nanganak anim na buwan lamang ang nakalilipas so six months old pa lamang ang kanyang anak na nandyan sa Pilipinas,” he said.
Meanwhile, OWWA is working to facilitate the repatriation of Dolores’ remains and airport assistance to expedite arrival processing, as well as the processing of the insurance benefits due her beneficiary.
