The Philippine Consulate in Sydney is rallying Filipino dual citizens as well as Pinoys working in New South Wales to register as overseas absentee voters for the upcoming 2010 presidential elections in the Philippines.

Balitang Australia reported that the Philippine Consulate General is also conducting forums with Filipino communities across New South Wales promoting dual citizenship program.

It can be recalled that the Philippines enacted the dual citizenship law in September 2003 to establish a procedure for former Filipinos who have become naturalized citizens of other countries to reacquire their Philippine citizenship without affecting their current citizenship status.

By the end of 2009, about 2,500 Philippine born Australians have reacquired their Philippine citizenship.

Any group may request the Consulate to hold a dual citizenship and overseas Absentee voting forum in their area by getting in touch with the Philippine Consulate.

The overseas absentee voting that started last February 1 will end in August 31.
