MANILA - Anti-narcotics agent arrested two Filipino overseas workers about to transport illegal drugs to China.
The suspects were identified as Mary Jane Turalde Vargas, 28, a kindergarten teacher at Guming, Shenzhen and Salvador Agunday Alberto II, 30, a teacher of Shanwei College.
Reports said that Vargas arrived from Malaysia on July 31 via a Cebu Pacific flight. She checked in a Pasay hotel where she was met by Alberto II.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said that Alberto II was set to transport the heroin to China in the afternoon of the same date via China Southern Airlines flight.
NBI operatives confronted Alberto II about the contents of his luggage at the departure area. He immediately pointed to Vargas as the one who requested him to carry the luggage to China.
The luggage reportedly contained 887.8 grams of heroin. The suspects are now detained at the NBI.
In August 2008, the NBI said that initial close coordination with the Royal Malaysian Police resulted in the arrest of 9 West Africans, 7 Filipinos and 1 Sri Lankan—all members of the West African Drug Syndicates (WADS).
