Two Filipino seamen are among the crewmembers of a Hong Kong-flagged vessel hijacked by pirates in Gulf of Aden near Somalia on Sunday, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Wednesday.

DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos Jr. said the Filipinos are among the 22 crewmembers of MT Stolt Valor. The other crewmembers are reportedly 18 Indians, a Bangladeshi and Russian.

Conejos said all crewmembers are unharmed.

The DFA has already instructed the Philippine embassy in Nairobi and the consulate general in Hong Kong to coordinate with the ship owner and international maritime authorities for their safe release, Conejos added.

Reports said MT Stolt Valor was on its way to Mumbai from Suez when the pirates forcibly took control of the ship.

MT Stolt Valor is the latest vessel to be hijacked in the Gulf of Aden.
