El Shaddai in Brussels to Bro. Mike: ‘Don’t run in 2010’

El Shaddai leader Mike Velarde may have openly bared his plans to run for public post in 2010, but his followers in Brussels think otherwise.

Members of the El Shaddai St. Remi chapter have vocally opposed the idea of Velarde taking part of what they consider a “chaotic world of politics” in the country.

Pina Payucong, former Coordinator of El Shaddai confirmed that they have supported Velarde in so many ways but hopes he would change his mind.

“Marumi po sa mundo ng pulitika. Mas gusto na lang namin na manatili na lang siya na servant leader of the Lord lalo na sa mga tao na nangangailangan, lalo na sa spiritual na pangangailangan ng mundo,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of Velarde’s leadership to his congregation and could not imagine having another leader for El Shaddai.

For some, it would be better if he remains to be a spiritual adviser of the next president. They also think that just like other presidentiables who gave way to Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s candidacy, it would make a difference if Velarde supports him.

“Para sa akin at para sana kay Brother Mike Velarde, mas makakabuti kung susuportahan na lang niya si Sen. Noynoy Aquino dahil nakikita kong siya ang karpat-dapat na magiging presidente sa 2010 elections,” said another El shaddai member Nelson Lagutan.

This, according to the group, should also be done by Jesus is Lord Ministry leader Eddie Villanueva.

Others who refused to be interviewed said that what the country needs at the moment is a leader who is God-fearing. But they also believe that it is vital for the next president to have a sense of directions and could lead and serve the people. Someone who will unite Filipinos from all walks of life, protect their rights and promote their welfare.
