The Philippine embassy is set on investigating the death of an overseas Filipino worker who reportedly died of aneurysm in Kuwait.
Indication of foul play prompted the embassy to send a letter of request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to probe the real cause of death of Concepcion Cariaga.
Cariaga, 42, of Batac, Ilocos Norte, arrived in Kuwait in 2007 as a household service worker.
On September 3 this year, Cariaga sent a text message to one of her four children. In the text message, Cariaga said that she and her employer had an argument.
The following day, Cariaga was rushed to the Amiri Hospital’s intensive care unit.
According to medical reports, Cariaga suffered brain hemorrhage. She was transferred to the IBN Sina Hospital on September 7 where she underwent two surgeries.
However, after the procedures, Cariaga went into a coma and died on September 25.
“Nakalagay sa death certificate, heart failure, malfunction of lungs, artery aneurysm. Nakakapagtaka, wala siyang previous records na may sakit siyang ganito,” said Ambassador Ricardo Endaya.
Welfare Officer Amy Crisostomo said Cariaga’s employers gave conflicting statements on what really happened to the OFW.
“Actually tinawagan ko ang kanyang anak. Tinawagan ng lady employer, nahulog daw sa hagdanan, tapos nabagsak ang ulo sa bathroom. Pangatlo nabagsak sa kusina. 'Yung employer na lalaki, nakita 15 meters away natumba at sa glass ng oven tumama pero nang tanungin ko kung gaano kalayo ang oven di niya masagot,” Crisostomo said.
Meanwhile, Endaya assured the family that the embassy will act on Cariaga’s case. Maxxy Santiago, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau, Kuwait
