MANILA - President Arroyo has ordered the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to immediately work for the safe release of 14 Filipino crew members of a Greek cargo ship hijacked by pirates while on their way to Kenya.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said Mrs. Arroyo has tasked DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Esteban Conejos to make sure that the Filipino seamen are unharmed.

The President has also ordered the Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration to communicate with the families of the Filipino seamen in the Philippines.

Reports said the Greek cargo ship Delvina was heading for Mombasa, Kenya from the Mediterranean when it was captured 280 nautical miles east of the Tanzanian coast.

The cargo ship also had seven Ukrainians on board.

Meanwhile, the DFA said Friday that it has ordered the Philippine embassies in Singapore and Nairobi to work for the safe and immediate release of 2 more Filipino crew of a Malaysian fishing vessel that was also hijacked by Somali pirates.

Thai Union 3, with its crew of 2 Filipinos, 2 Ghanaians and 23 Russians, was seized by last October off Seychelles.

More than 30 Filipino seamen are currently being held by Somali pirates.

The DFA said Conejos's office is in close coordination with the vessel's local manning agency. It said that the manning agency has assured that all the crews on board the vessel were in good condition.

thats their job

I don't think the President needs to order them. FFS that's their job and they have to do it without any order or favors.
