3 Pinoys die in car accident in Saipan
SAIPAN, Northern Marianas —Three Filipinos died and a fourth one is recuperating after their car collided into a power pole along a traffic signal light intersection before dawn last Sunday.
Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman Lei Ogumoru-Ulodong identified the fatalities as Hydee G. Garcia, 26; Ronald H. Carreon, 35, and; Rose Ann O. Bautista, 22, all are from Metro Manila. All three suffered head trauma and severe fatal injuries.
The two women, Garcia and Bautista, were waitresses at Godfather’s Bar.
Carreon, a computer programmer, left behind his pregnant wife and a young daughter in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines .
Police report showed the victims just came from a party at a club in Saipan, the capital of the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas about 1,500 miles south of Manila, when the accident happened.
Garcia was drunk while driving the 1997 Ford Crown Victoria. She lost control of the vehicle when it sharply veered to the right and hit a power pole.
“Ms. Garcia was the cause of the crash….the operator lost control of the vehicle and the car veered sharply to the right. As a result, the car went off the main road and collided into a CUC power pole located at the shoulder along the Nauru traffic signal light intersection,” Ogumoru-Ulodong said in a statement.
The fourth victim, 30-year-old Joel O. Tagalicud, is recuperating at the Commonwealth Health center. Doctors said he suffered multiple abrasions, lacerations and bruises to the body.
