MANILA – Fourteen Filipino fishermen detained in Myanmar for illegal fishing will soon be given assistance, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

The situation of the 14 Pinoy fishermen was reported to the DFA by the Philippine Embassy in Yangon.

The Filipinos were on board 4 Taiwanese fishing vessels, together with Taiwanese and Indonesian nationals.

They are now detained at Myanmar’s Insein prison after their fishing vessels were apprehended in Myanmar waters for illegal fishing.

The Philippine Embassy is reportedly in the process of securing the passport details and other pertinent data of the Filipino fishermen from Myanmar authorities.

Likewise, the Embassy has requested for consular access to the fishermen.
