The Philippine Embassy in New Delhi assured that Filipinos in the troubled Mumbai are in good condition.
“We have talked to them. We have assisted them and they have contacted their families,” said Charge d’ Affairs Maria Aniceta Bugarin of the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi.
On Thursday, the foreign affairs department reported that five Filipinos—three males and two females—were affected by terrorist attacks.
“Yong isa diyan actually, ang company niya is the one taking care [of him]. He was here on a business trip. They contacted us na kailangan niyang lumabas kasi they had to evacuate the hotel. Naiwan ang kanyang mga travel documents, binigyan namin siya ng bagong travel documents,” Bugarin said.
The two other males are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) employed at the Oberoi Hotel’s Tiffen restaurant. They have been evacuated to safety, the DFA said.
The two females, wives of the OFWs who recently arrived to join their husbands, are also safe and currently billeted in another hotel.
“Yung iba naman doon, they just contacted us to let us know they are doing well. They are safe naman. Wala naman kaming reported na naipit doon,” said Bugarin.
Bugarin is confident that the Indian government is doing everything it can to keep all its nationals, foreign visitors and guests safe.
“Pwede nila kaming tawagan. Ang number namin sa embassy for India 0091 11268 89091 for emergency 91 9910797014,” said Bugarin.
