More than a hundred overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) laid-off from work in Taiwan because of the financial crisis are set to arrive in Manila this week.

Migrante International said 103 OFWs from Ace Co. Ltd., an electronics company based in Chungli in the province of Taipei, will be arriving in Manila in two batches.

The first batch is composed of 82 Filipino migrant workers who will board China Airlines Flight C1703 at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The 21 remaining OFWs will leave Taiwan on board Philippine Airlines Flight PR 899 at 7:30 p.m. on the same day.

Migrante said its members will be at the airport when the workers arrive.

The group said the workers borrowed money to be able to pay P80,000 placement fee to work in Taiwan. However, they only got a refund amounting to P17,000.

Migrante said that according to a non-government organization based in Taiwan, it is estimated that 3,000 people would lose their jobs before the year ends.

It was also estimated that 50,000 migrant workers are in danger of losing their jobs in 2009.

Filipino migrant workers arriving on Tuesday were only given NT$1,500 per worker for their tickets back to the Philippines.
