Cyprus Pinay in coma after hit-and-run incident
A Filipino domestic helper is still in a coma and may need a miracle to return to normal condition after being a victim of what is believed to be a hit-and-run incident in Cyprus.
Desiree Lopez remains unconscious after a motorcycle ran over her on October 2. Lopez has been in Cyprus for seven years. She works in a bakery.
Filipinos in Cyprus have criticized the Philippine consulate and accused its officials of failing to attend to the plight of Lopez.
Officials, however, fought back, saying they have called up Lopez's relatives even though she has no legal right to work in Cyprus.
According to Consul Shemaine Kyriakides, Lopez was not a victim of hit-and-run.
Meanwhile, a Cypriot married to a Filipina is helping the victim.
Adonis Nicolaides has posted a bank guarantee to ensure that the victim's sister, Luzviminda, can go to Nicosia to visit Lopez.
He is also leading a fund-raising campaign for Lopez's repatriation. Danny Buenafe, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau, Cyprus
