[11]MANILA, Philippines -- A motorcycle-riding gunman was killed after engaging policemen in a shootout in Barangay San Rafael in Rodriguez, Rizal on Thursday afternoon.
Investigation showed that police apprehended the still unidentified fatality and the driver of the motorcycle he was riding at a checkpoint along Gloria Vista Road at around 4:30 p.m.
Both were not wearing helmets and their motorcycle had no plate number.
Instead of stopping, the alleged riding-in-tandem suspects sped away. The passenger then fired at the police, resulting in a shootout.
Police have yet to determine if the driver of the motorcycle, who was able to escape, was also hit in the encounter.
Recovered from the area were several empty bullet shells from a .45 caliber pistol. -- Report from Charlie Mendoza, dzMM
