Francisco to fight Mexican in Viloria undercard [1]

MANILA, Philippines – With just a few days to go before fight night, Filipino boxer Drian “Gintong Kamao” Francisco finally found out who he will be fighting on November 17 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

According to PhilBoxing, Francisco, with a record of 23 wins, one loss and one draw, will face 29-year-old Mexican Javier Gallo, who holds a record of 18 wins against five losses with one draw. Gallo has won 10 fights via knockout. [http://philboxing.com/news/story-76993.html]

Francisco and Gallo will face off in the undercard of the title unification bout between Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria and Hernan “Tyson” Marquez.

Francisco was offered a chance to fight world super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux on December 15 in the undercard of the Nonito Donaire-Jorge Arce fight card, but the Cuban eventually signed a contract to fight Thai boxer Poonsawat Krationgdaenggym.

This put Francisco in limbo and frustrated his coach, Justin Fortune, who pointed out that it was “very difficult to prepare a fighter if I don’t know who the opponent is.”

Fortune even claimed that the Rigondeaux camp was “not interested” in fighting Francisco, who was an “awfully dangerous” boxer.

“Francisco is a good little fighter who can really, really punch aside from being awkward and tough,” Fortune told PhilBoxing.

Gallo is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision loss against David Quijano last January 21 in Puerto Rico. His last win came in September 2011, when he defeated Jason Rorie via a thrid round technical knockout.
