MANILA – Torrential rains and massive floods have left at least two people dead in Basilan, an official said.
Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay said two people were also reported missing and at least 1,000 families in five barangays were evacuated due to heavy rains since Friday last week.
The heavy rains which battered parts of Visayas and Mindanao have also left at least three dead and thousands displaced in Zamboanga City, which is still reeling from the armed conflict involving Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels.
On the central island of Negros, the civil defense office reported six people drowned.
Two others, including a five-year-old girl, died in flash floods on the central island of Panay, the office said. – with Agence France-Presse
