MANILA, Philippines – Juan Manuel Marquez was pleased over the selection of the ring officials for his upcoming bout with Manny Pacquiao.
Marquez, who has always blamed the judges for the controversial outcomes of his previous battles with Pacquiao, believes the officials handpicked by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for the December 8 bout will be fair.
The NSAC appointed Adelaide Byrd of Las Vegas, Steve Weisfeld of New Jersey and John Keane of England to judge the fourth Pacquiao-Marquez fight.
Veteran referee Kenny Bayless was chosen to be the third man in the ring.
Marquez thanked his promoter for ensuring that they will get a fair shake come December 8.
"I thank Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions for fighting for judges that are different from the others. I've done fights with Manny Pacquiao, and that none of the judges have been appointed [this far] before any of our fights, which tells me [that they'll] be impartial," he said in a RingTV report by Lem Satterfield .
But Marquez warned that the whole boxing world will keep an eye on the judges.
"The judges will be in the eye of the hurricane. They'll be being watched closely by television reporters, by the people, not to be exposed to another controversial ruling. That leaves me quiet," said Marquez.
