MANILA, Philippines - After coming out to the public with her being a lesbian, stage actress Monique Wilson also admitted that she has blood cancer.
In an interview with "Startalk TX" aired on Saturday, Wilson said one of the reasons she admitted her sexuality is the fact that she was diagnosed with blood cancer two years ago.
"All the doubts and fears you had about anything not just about my sexuality but even about my advocacies, about my life choices, parang it all became very clear. Ganoon pala iyon when you face your mortality or life and death experiences, like you get clarity. So to me, it was very important to break those silences and those myths and those stigma because people need to live with freedom and dignity and respect,” Wilson said.
Wilson said she was able to manage her illness by taking medications.
“I'm managing, I'm managing kasi what I have is a type of blood cancer that is chronic, so you will just have it for your whole life. I take a chemo tablet, four a day. They say na wala pa siyang cure but if you manage it, then you can extend your life,” explained Wilson.
“Pero I have a lot of side effects... it’s part of my gratitude. Hindi ko na iko-complain iyan because to me, I’m so lucky talaga to be even alive, to be well, to be on medication,” she added.
