MANILA, Philippines – Award-winning singer Zia Quizon turned emotional in a television interview on Sunday as she remembered her late father Dolphy, who was dubbed as the country’s “King of Comedy.”
Quizon, who won top honors at the recently held Awit Awards, broke into tears as she dedicated her achievements to her father, who passed away last July.
“I guess I just want to say hi again,” she told “The Buzz” host Charlene Gonzales in a one-on-one interview. “I hope I made him proud.”
Asked what she admires most about her father, Quizon said with tears: “That more than a great man, he’s a good man. That he was a good man.”
“I just miss having him around. His energy is so positive kasi. ‘Yung hindi mo talaga siya kailangang kausapin or to interact with him, he has such a nice aura. And now, I feel it all the time,” she added.
Quizon shared that her parents, Dolphy and singer Zsa Zsa Padilla, have greatly influenced her music, on top of the movies she watches.
“From my mom was ‘yung popular music, mas ballads, ganoon,” she said of Padilla, who is known for being the Philippines’ “Divine Diva.”
“And my dad influenced me to listen to ‘yung mga oldies. ‘Yun ‘yung talagang pinapatugtog ko talaga sa bahay, sa kotse,” she added.
Asked how it feels like to be a daughter of two prominent personalities, Quizon said: “Parang double-edged sword siya. On one hand, may pressure din na maging magaling kahit umarte o kumanta. But I guess on the other side, it’s also good kasi mas napu-push ko ‘yung sarili kong mag-succeed at gumaling.”
