MANILA, Philippines – While denying that he is choosy when it comes to his roles, actor Paulo Avelino considers doing horror projects a little more challenging compared to doing drama.

Avelino, who drew praise for his performance in the ABS-CBN primetime series “Walang Hanggan,” is among the lead stars of the upcoming horror flick “Shake, Rattle & Roll XIV,” an entry in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
“Para sa akin po, I love to do both pero dito kasi sa horror, mas detailed kailangan. Kahit isang detalye lang mawala, madali nang mabago ang istorya. Kailangan mas conscious lang sa ginagawa mo kapag horror,” he told ABS-CBN News in an interview on Thursday.
Avelino has already won a Best Actor trophy from the Gawad Urian for his performance in the indie movie "Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa."
According to the actor, he has technically done more drama projects in the past, making him want to do something different in the future.
“Everything falls under drama here [sa acting]. Pero siyempre I’d love to do something offbeat also once in a while, 'yung kakaiba naman, 'yung hindi ko pa nagagawa... Hindi naman choosy pero I want something important, something vital, something na mapa-proud akong gawin,” he explained.
But Avelino stressed that he always gives his 100% in all of his projects.
“Kasi ako I perform as to how my character should be and I don’t really get eaten by the pressure na kailangan mong tapatan 'yung last performance mo,” he said.
Asked if he is ready to headline his own project, he said: “Sa akin, as I’ve said, I perform based on my character so if they give me a solo project, or isa sa mga leads, I’d be more than happy to accept.”
Avelino said he is still waiting for another project from ABS-CBN after the phenomenal run of “Walang Hanggan.”
