'Pablo' to dissipate on Monday [1]

MANILA, Philippines -- “Pablo” (international codename "Bopha") is expected to dissipate on Monday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Speaking with radio dzMM, PAGASA Administrator Dr. Nathaniel Servando said Pablo is expected to weaken due to the northeast monsoon or "amihan".

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday evening.

"Nagre-recurve siya patungong hilaga pero dahil umiiral na ngayon ang amihan, ito po 'yung malamig na hangin, ito po 'yung isa sa mga dahilan na inaasahan natin, kung hindi man later today (or) tomorrow, umpisa na siyang hihina. Eventually by Monday, ito ay malulusaw o magdi-dissipate," he said.

Pablo was last spotted 360 kilometers northwest of Dagupan City with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

It is moving slowly north northeast towards Taiwan at 10 kph.

It is also not expected to hit mainland Luzon due to the presence of the northeast monsoon in the region.

Mindanao, including the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley, will experience cloudy to rainy skies with a chance for thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone.

Metro Manila, meanwhile, will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers.

Fishing boats and other sea vessels are still advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Central and Northern Luzon, and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon because of the northeast monsoon that could bring strong winds and big waves.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau said it is possible that another typhoon would enter PAR before the year ends.

"Sa buwan ng December, (kadalasan) ay isa o dalawang bagyo ang pumapasok, kaya malaki ang posibilidad bago matapos ang taon ay may isa pang bagyong papasok sa PAR. Patuloy ang aming pagmomonitor," Servando said.
