TV commercial talent agent charged with tax evasion [1]

MANILA, Philippines - A television commercial talent agent was slapped with a tax evasion complaint by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday.

Bernard B. Anacta, sole proprietor of Makati City-based Monaco Models and Casting Agency, was charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for a total tax liability of P4.174 million for taxable year 2009.

According to the complaint, certifications of income payments obtained from Anacta's clients revealed that he received from P7.69 million for the said year.

These income payments were allegedly received by Anacta from Avon Cosmetics, Inc. (P1.261 million), BBDO Guerrero, Inc. (P0.376 million), Campaigns and Grey, Inc. (P0.183 million), Golden ABC, Inc. (P0.769 million), Golden Arches Devt. Corp. (P0.296 million), Harrison Communications, Inc. (P0.974 million), McCann Worldgroup Phils., Inc. (P2.644 million), Publicis Jimenez Basic, Inc. (P0.531 million), SM Mart, Inc. (P0.068 million), Southeast Asia Food, Inc. (P0.175 million), United Laboratories, Inc. (P0.349 million), and Universal Robina Corp. (P0.062 million).

These income payments allegedly underdeclared by Anacta were confirmed with his lists of payors based on the BIR's Data Warehouse, the complaint stated.

The case against Anacta is the 138th filed by the BIR under its Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program under the Aquino administration.

Anacta has yet to receive a copy of the complaint.
