[11]MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from Typhoon "Pablo" has climbed to 1,043, with the figure expected to rise further as 844 remain missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.
The NDRRMC said 645 of the bodies have been identified.
Most of the deaths were reported in the devastated provinces of Davao Oriental (390) and Compostela Valley (595).
At least 474 remain missing in landslide- and flashflood-hit Compostela Valley, while 51 have yet to be accounted for in Davao Oriental.
The NDRRMC said at least 6,203,826 were affected by the typhoon. Of the affected residents, 25,953 remain inside evacuation centers.
At least 2,662 were injured by the typhoon, 1,810 of whom were in Davao Oriental, which was battered by strong winds during the typhoon's landfall.
The cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructure now stands at P24.16 billion. The strong typhoon damaged at least 167,295 houses.
