[11]MANILA, Philippines – The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) reminded passengers of its "no inspection, no ride" policy, which will be implemented even during the holidays.
LRTA spokesman Atty. Hernando Cabrera said the policy will be strictly implemented for the security of the train-riding public.
"Please bear with whatever inconvenience that the required security checks at the stations may bring you. This is for everybody's safety," he said in a statement released Thursday.
LRTA's security guards have collected deadly weapons through the years. Some passengers were even caught with guns and explosives.
The LRTA guards are trained by off-duty Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) personnel on bomb, bullet, and weapon detection and identification.
"The guards are shown various types of guns, explosive devices, and various caliber bullets for visual reference. This enables them to know what particular devices to look for," Cabrera said.
Aside from the training, the guards are also taught basic courtesy and respect for the passengers.
