DOTC eyes study on how to decongest M.Manila [1]

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is seeking to bid out a consultancy contract for a study to help improve the public transportation in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Interested parties for the Metro Manila Urban Transportation Integrated Study (MMUTIS) Update and Capacity Enhancement Project (MUCEP) Survey have until January 18 to submit their eligibility documents to the Bids and Awards Committee.

"The transportation database for Metro Manila was developed MMUTIS in 1996 has to be updated to support the development of traffic forecasts to be used in developing a public transportation plan for Metro Manila and adjoining provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan," the DOTC said in notice.

The DOTC said the budget for the contract amounts to P41.05 million.

The project involves conducting a household interview survey to get information about the socio-economic conditions and trip patterns of commuters in Metro Manila, as well as get public opinion on traffic development.

The DOTC is rebidding the contract for the project after a failed bidding last November.

The companies shortlisted last year were Sustainable Development Solutions, Woodfields Consultants Inc. and GHD Pty Ltd, TCGI Engineers, and Lichel Technologies Inc.

Earlier, a study by National Center for Transportation Studies showed traffic congestion in Metro Manila led to P137.5 billion in losses in 2011. This would bring the total losses due to traffic in the last 11 years to P1.5 trillion.
