[11]MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will gain custody of Aman Futures Group founder Manuel Amalilio within the day, according to NBI Director Nonnatus Rojas.
Speaking to reporters at the Department of Justice (DOJ) after briefing Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Rojas said 4 NBI agents have been sent to Kota Kinabalu at dawn on Thursday for the turnover of Amalilo who was nabbed by Malaysian immigration officers on Tuesday for carrying a fake Malaysian passport and ID.
"Our people are already there... they are coordinating with our Philippine embassy as well as the Malaysian government. We are hopeful that, as anticipated, ma-turnover sa atin si Amalilio," Rojas said.
Once the NBI has physical custody of Amalilio, he will be flown to Manila on Friday and will be detained at the NBI headquarters in Manila pending his presentation before the Pagadian City trial court which is handling several cases of syndicated estafa against him.
Amalilio and other Aman Futures executives have an outstanding warrant for their arrest.
Aman Futures reportedly duped thousands of investors in the Visayas and Mindanao for a collective amount of P12 billion.
