Richard Yap teases new twists in 'kilig-serye'

Richard Yap, Jodi Sta. Maria, Be Careful With My Heart

MANILA, Philippines -- The "kilig-serye" starring Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap continues to reign daytime programming on Philippine TV.

"Be Careful With My Heart" marked a milestone rating last Friday, when the scene of Sir Chief (Yap) serenading Maya (Sta. Maria) aired. The widower character made the grand gesture as a way of apologizing to the nanny of his youngest daughter, Abby (Mutya Orquia).

According to the latest data of the multinational market research group Kantar Media, the leading daytime series garnered a nationwide rating of 31.3% last January 25, its highest since it started airing in July last year.

On the other hand, the Kapamilya program's competing show aired on GMA-7, "Eat Bulaga," turned in 14.8% in national TV rating on the same day.

'Sir Chief' thankful

At the sidelines of the screening of the action film "Chinese Zodiac" on Tuesday, Yap expressed gratitude to the loyal viewers of "Be Careful With My Heart". He said they had not expected the show's massive success, considering its time slot.

"We're very thankful that everyone's watching the show at umabot nga kami sa ganoon level, so we just hope that people will continue supporting us," he told ABS-CBN News.

"For us, it's really very surprising kasi hindi namin akalain na may audience pala kaming ganoon. Noong nagumpisa, takot nga kami eh," said Yap, who first rose to popularity for his role as "Papa Chen" in the 2011 series "My Binondo Girl".

According to the heartthrob actor, viewers can expect new surprises as the plot of "Be Careful With My Heart" progresses. Sir Chief is now looking for a replacement to Maya, who has resigned to pursue her dream of becoming a flight attendant.

"Medyo palalim na nang palalim 'yung relationship namin ni Maya, pero since aalis siya, there will be a few surprises along the way," he said.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, more than AGB Nielsen's 1,980 homes that are only based in urban areas. Kantar Media’s panel represents 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while AGB Nielsen reportedly represents only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.
