MANILA, Philippines - Vice-President Jejomar Binay is unfazed by news that he will face Mar Roxas in the 2016 presidential race after defeating him in 2010.
Speaking to reporters, Binay said anyone who is qualified can join the next presidential election.
Asked about Roxas' presidential bid, he said: "Tanggap ko na. Siyempre may makakalaban ka. Ako in so far as I'm concerned, let me just say again, magkakandidato ho ako."
Binay would not speculate if he and Roxas would be neck and neck in the 2016 election. He said he had a 726,000-vote margin against Roxas in the 2010 vice-presidential race.
He also thanked President Aquino for his support.
Roxas was supposed to run for president in 2010, but gave way to Benigno Aquino III. He sought the position of vice-president instead, but lost to Binay. He has a pending electoral protest. With a report by Nina Corpuz, ABS-CBN News
