[11]MANILA, Philippines – Three children died after drinking allegedly poisoned water from a river in Siaton, Negros Oriental.
The fatalities were identified as siblings Sandy and Raniel Tabilon, aged 8 and 7, respectively; and their cousin, Justin Bahandi, 3.
Sr. Supt. Alfonzo Enriquez, Siaton Police chief, said the water in the river may have been tainted since some fishes and shrimps were found dead in it.
Three other children are now in critical condition after drinking the allegedly tainted water. They are Tabilon siblings Randy, 13; Ramil, 5; and, Russel, 3.
A resident also complained of irritation after getting in contact with the water.
Authorities have yet to identify the chemical that killed the children. – report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
