[11]MANILA, Philippines - Senatorial candidate Jack Enrile revealed he has spent an estimated P30 million on advocacy ads before the start of the official campaign period for the May polls.
Enrile, the congressman of Cagayan's 1st District and son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, said he and some friends paid for the ads.
He said he expects a more level playing field once the Commission on Elections imposes the official airtime limits for candidates during the official campaign period. The Comelec en banc earlier limited ads for each candidate to 120 minutes for all TV networks and
180 minutes in all radio stations.
The official campaign period for national candidates starts on February 12, 2013.
Meanwhile, Enrile denied that smuggling is going on in Port Irene in Cagayan province.
He told ANC's Headstart that the Supreme Court has already upheld a ban on the importation of used cars at the free port.
"There has been no documented instance of smuggling and I will encourage those, please, if you have any documentation, bring it to me, my father or [re-electionist] Gov. Alvaro Antonio and we will do something about it," he told ANC.
