MANILA, Philippines – The defending champions De La Salle Lady Spikers showed off their fearsome form as they defeated rivals Ateneo Lady Eagles in straight sets in a historic encounter at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.
A sold-out crowd of 19,638 trooped to the MOA Arena to watch the Lady Spikers sweep the Lady Eagles, 25-19, 25-23, and 25-21.
In an earlier game, the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Tigresses avenged their first round loss to the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs with a four-set victory, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-17.
It was the first time that a women’s volleyball match has ever been held at the world-class venue.
La Salle won their 12th straight game to clinch the top seed in the Final Four, while UST boosted their chances of making the semi-finals as they won for the seventh time this season.
