MANILA – A father, his two children and a policeman were shot dead before dawn on Wednesday in an alleged blood feud in Caloocan City.
The fatalities were identified as Manolito Piccio, his children Eric and Ody, and PO3 Ernesto Castillo.
Police said Piccio, his children and some friends were having a drinking session along Rose Street in Barangay 174 when a group led by Castillo suddenly shot at them.
Piccio's group allegedly fired back, hitting the policeman.
Both the older Piccio and Castillo died on the spot, while Eric and Ody were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police said the head of Castillo was bludgeoned with a rock.
Manolito's wife, Susan, identified a certain Ely as being behind the murder of her husband and two children.
Susan said Ely wanted to avenge the death of her husband, Jun Bonto. She said Bonto was accidentally shot by her eldest son, Emer, while fighting over a gun last January 2012.
She said a distant relative of Bonto told her of Ely's plan to get revenge.
"Kasi mayroong nag-report sa amin na malayong kamag-anak ng Bonto, na nagbayad sila (Ely), na [papatayin] sila. Iyung nagbigay sa amin na statement na malayong kamag-anak nila, 'di tatayo iyon [bilang testigo]," she told radio dzMM.
"Ang alam ko ho kasi, nagbayad sila, iyung Ely. Kasi 'di niya matanggap na namatay ang asawa niya kaya gusto niyang makabawi."
Susan, meanwhile, said she has been hearing the name of Castillo but has no knowledge of the latter's involvement in the feud.
She also could not say what caused the feud.
She added that one of her sons, Tristan, was also killed last January 9.
Several firearms such as an improvised pistol, a 9-mm pistol, and two grenades were recovered at the crime scene.
