MANILA, Philippines – The police have filed charges against six people for the murder of businessman Kelvin Tan in San Juan last January 28.
Speaking to radio dzMM, San Juan Police chief Supt. Bernard Tambaoan said a murder charge has been filed against Tan's friend, Benedict Tan Tiu.
Tiu's bodyguard, Reggie Guadayo; his driver, Hersan Fuentes; the unidentified gunman and two lookouts were also charged.
Tan was shot dead in front of China Bank in Greenhills last January 28. A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a man in violet shirt fleeing on foot after shooting him. The actual shooting was not caught on camera.
A security guard said Tan encashed a check worth P800,000 from the bank that day. He then saw Tan handing cash to Guadayo.
Guadayo, however, denied receiving money and claimed that it was actually him who handed P200,000 to Tan, puzzling the police as to what happened to the P800,000.
The P200,000 was supposedly lent by Tiu to Tan, owner of KT Builders Inc.
Tambaoan said they found out that Guadayo lied when they reviewed another CCTV footage which showed what really transpired that day.
"Nung ni-review namin ang CCTV footage ay talagang nalaman natin na talagang nagsisinungaling siya (Guadayo) dahil ang sabi niya siya ay nag-antay siya kay Kelvin sa kanyang sasakyan sa parking lot ngunit nung ni-review namin, nakita namin si Guadayo ay sumunod kay Kelvin Tan sa Starbucks," Tambaoan said.
The footage also showed a man in red shirt exchanging hand signals with the other lookouts.
Tambaoan said they also have a witness who will supplement the information found in the CCTV f
