[11]MANILA - Vice-President Jejomar Binay on Monday denied that former President Joseph Estrada punched a police officer at the Manila fiscal's office on Sunday.
Binay, in an interview with media, said he was present during the incident.
"Hindi naman. Nandoon ako eh," he said. Wala namang sakitan 'dun."
Blumentritt Police Community Precinct Commander Chief Insp. Eduardo Morata claims [12] that Estrada hit him repeatedly and threatened to remove him from his post while they were at the fiscal's office following the arrest of Vice Mayor Isko Moreno and others due to gambling charges.
Morata also showed his damaged uniform and other bruises sustained from his clash with Moreno's supporters.
Moreno, who is the running mate of Estrada who will face incumbent Mayor Alfredo Lim, has denied the allegations.
He and Estrada have also vowed to file criminal and administrative complaints [13] against those who arrested and allegedly manhandled Moreno and 5 Manila councilors last Saturday.
Binay, who is allied with Estrada under the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), also downplayed the illegal gambling charge filed against Moreno and the 5 councilors.
"Itong mga bagay na ito, eh mga dapat magkaliwanagan 'dun sa ginawa nila. Pero nandun kasi ako sa piskalya, pagkatanda ko ang sabi ng piskal eh wala namang gambling 'dun. Kasi wala namang betting. 'Yung sinasabing kinuhang pera, eh 'yung pulis mismong gumawa ng affidavit, sabi niya premyo iyun," he said.
Lim on Monday denied ordering Moreno's arrest [14].
