MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Law Department is still prepared to ask senatorial candidate Jamby Madrigal for an explanation for her iPad contest as the poll body has not yet received her apology.
Comelec Law Department Chair Esmeralda Ladra said the law department printed screen grabs of Madrigal's iPad contest on her social media account.
"We were about to give notice, in fact, nagprint kami noon, tinanggal naman agad din in the afternoon. We're studying kung ituloy ba natin ang pagsampa. Nakikita natin, gusto namin na magbigay siya ng explanation kung bakit di siya dapat kakasuhan. We are considering the fact (Madrigal's apology) kung kailangan ba ituloy," she said.
"Pinag aaralan namin ngayon, baka ibigay natin sa Monday if ok na. [Sabi niya] sorry...but gusto naming may explanation in writing."
Ladra said the contest was done on her own Facebook account.
Aside from not accepting the public apology, Ladra also rebuffed claims that the contest was done by her volunteers. She said the volunteers must be identified.
"Kami sa office namin, we will be sending her [a letter] to explain hindi pwede yun. Lahat ng resolutions namin have been published with the presumption everyone knows ano ang rules," she said.
Ladra, meantime, cannot yet comment on any violation on the reported contest of senatorial candidate Koko Pimentel.
Pimentel's Facebook page invites netizens to design a baller or wrist band for Pimentel. The winning design will be used and worn by Pimentel and his group.
The ad however makes no mention of any prize.
Ladra said contests are generally allowed so long as they do not give away prizes of value.
