[11]TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban City Health Office has reported that the number of dengue cases in the city continues to rise.
As of February 12, there are already 83 cases recorded.
"It is four times higher compared last year of the same period," city health officer Dr. Jaime Opinion said.
Most of the victims are children ages 10 years old below.
In 2010, dengue cases in Eastern Visayas exceeded 5,000 with at least 65 deaths.
Tacloban City alone had more than a thousand cases.
Because of this, the local government once again reminded the public especially those who are living at identified hotspots--San Jose, Sagkahan, Kassel Homes and V and G Subdivision--to re-activate the dengue task force of every barangay.
These places have the most number of dengue patients last 2010.
The city has started a clean-up drive at San Jose last week to encourage the community to clean their surrounding and destroy possible breeding sites.
"Especially that we have been experiencing rains for days already, stagnant waters can be a breeding site, may it be in a bottle cap," Dr. Opinion added.
The health office, however, made it clear that despite the rise, there is no outbreak in the city.
