Even before birth, doctors had noted a mass on the head of baby Sophia Marquez.

Now, at seven months old, she has yet to go through any treatment with her family still finding means to provide her medication.

Gemma Marquez still remembers how she took every precaution to have e healthy pregnancy while she was bearing Sophia in her womb.

But her world almost crashed when an ultrasound showed a lump on the baby’s head.

"Habang lumalaki po yung anak ko, lumalaki din po yung bukol (The lump on her head grew with her on my womb)" mom Gemma narrated to Bantay Bata.

Now at 7 months old, baby Sophia’s lump has grown to almost the size of her head.

Filled with water, the lump makes it difficult for the baby to move her head and body.

Adding to Gemma’s fear, a wound had developed on the lump causing the fluid to leak, making baby Sophia even more vulnerable to infection.

Weekly, Gemma and baby Sophia endure the discomfort of A long travel from Tarlac to Manila for the baby’s check up, along with the hope of seeking help for baby Sophia’s needed operation.

Despite their lack of resources for her child’s treatment, Gemma clings to her hope that kind hearts will soon reach out to baby Sophia.
