After jewelry heist, SM malls enforce 'strict' security
MANILA, Philippines - After a jewelry heist at SM Megamall last Saturday evening, SM management is appealing for the public's cooperation as it says it is enforcing "strict security" procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
SM Prime Holdings and SM Supermalls issued a statement on Monday saying that it is cooperating with the police to ensure the perpetrators of the robbery are arrested as soon as possible.
"We appeal for public cooperation as we continue to enforce our strict security standard operating procedures that include scanning through handheld metal detectors and physical inspection," the company said.
SM is also investigating any negligence on the part of the security personnel and is undertaking further action to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
"We assure the public, including SM employees and tenants, that management invests on security prevention assets and policies including training, security devices and security personnel. SM Megamall management shall ensure that all Security personnel shall constantly perform their duties diligently to ensure safety and
security at all times," the company said.
On Saturday evening, members of the "Martilyo Gang" brazenly robbed the F and C Jewelry Store located at the ground floor of the mall. After firing two gunshots that caused panic among shoppers, the robbers managed to escape with more than 150 pieces of jewelry.
