MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee wants to go for an equalizer as it resumes its best-of-7 semis duel with Rain or Shine on Thursday.

Despite winning Game 5, 79-67, last Saturday, the Mixers remain a win behind the Elasto Painters with a 2-3 series deficit.

“We know Rain or Shine is going to play a better game this time around, so we’ll have to play at a much higher level as well,” said San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone in the league’s official website.

Cone and his charges are wary of a well-charged Rain or Shine following their 4-day holiday break.

The Mixers are expected to again focus on defense, which paid dividends in their Game 5 success.

“We just have to stay focused and committed to the task at hand,” said Cone.

The Mixers are expected to lean again on Marc Pingis, Joe Devance, PJ Simon and Mark Barroca, who all stepped up for the injury-hobbled James Yap in Game 5.

Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said his team is aimed at closing the series but giving San Mig Coffee a dose of their own medicine.

“The key is to sustain our energy and keep the defensive pressure,” he said.

“Our attitude is to finish the series tomorrow or face dire consequences,” said Guiao. “Yes, we are still leading the series but it is always good to have that sense of urgency.”
