MANILA, Philippines – Mexican boxer Hernan “Tyson” Marquez wants a rematch against world flyweight champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria following his 10th-round technical knockout loss in their first meeting last November.

In one of the best fights of 2012, Marquez and Viloria engaged in a toe-to-toe battle for 10 rounds, with the Mexican tasting the canvas in the first, fifth and 10th rounds, at which point Marquez’s corner stopped the fight.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Marquez’s promoter, Fernando Beltran, revealed that they are hoping to make a rematch with Viloria later this year.

“There are several plans for Tyson, and we will do a rematch with Viloria in the second half of 2013,” Beltran said.

If Viloria winds up moving up in weight to super flyweight, then Marquez hopes to face unbeaten Filipino Milan “El Metodico” Melindo for the World Boxing Organization flyweight title.

The loss to Viloria was only the third of Marquez’s career. He came into the bout with a seven-fight winning streak.
