MANILA, Philippines – UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman expressed apprehension about Vitor Belfort’s use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which is viewed as a form of cheating by some UFC fighters.

Weidman said that the TRT, coupled with Belfort’s history of failed drug tests, makes him more doubtful of the Brazilian’s integrity.

"He's failed a drug test before. He's on TRT now. I don't agree with TRT to begin with, so him failing a drug test and being on TRT, I don't really like it," Weidman said in MMA Fighting.

The UFC earlier announced plans of pitting the two fighters following Weidman’s recent victory over erstwhile UFC champion Anderson Silva.

The fight could take place in Las Vegas either in May or July.

Weidman said he hopes the commission that will sanction the fight will look closely at Belfort’s drug use, noting that an elevated testosterone level would give Belfort undue advantage.

"I guarantee his testosterone on TRT is two or three times higher than mine… Fighting is a sport where strength is important, and if you're going to have extra testosterone, especially after you've been caught cheating, it's unfair," he said.
