MANILA, Philippines – Three-peat seeking Talk ‘N Text will be gunning for a follow up when it resumes its finals series against Rain or Shine in PBA Philippine Cup Game 2 at the Mall of Asia on Friday.

The Texters drew first blood with an 87-81 win during Game 1, but Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black said the series has just begun.

“Despite the fact we are up 1-0 right now, this is where the fun begins for the coaches,” said Black in PBA’s website.

He said he anticipates a strong comeback from Rain or Shine in Game 2, which is why Talk ‘N Text will have to prepare to offset the backlash.

The Texters had the Elasto Painters backpedalling in the first two quarters of their series opener, connecting most of their shots from the three-point range.

Rain or Shine mounted a full attack in the fourth quarter, but Larry Fonacier and Jason Castro quelled the uprising late in the game to help Talk ‘N Text secure a 1-0 lead in the series.

“I’m sure coach Yeng [Guiao of Rain or Shine] will be making adjustments for the next game, so we have to figure out what those will be and try to counter them,” said Black.

Guiao, for his part, is confident that his boys will be able to bounce back from their Game 1 loss.

The mercurial coach said they had the Texters beaten in most departments, including offensive rebounding, assists, turnover and fastbreak points.

The one thing that Rain or Shine has to correct, Guiao said, is their outside shooting.

“It’s important we’re able to connect with our perimeter shots to open up some driving lanes,” he explained.

From beyond the arc, the Elasto Painters only connected four of 21 attempts. The Texters, on the other hand, went 10-for-27.

“The middle was just clogged, too tight for us. We (should be able) to balance our offense with a running game, our offensive rebounding and hit some three-point shots. That’s the key for us,” said Guiao.

The game begins at 6:45 p.m.
