MANILA – Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao is impressed with league-leader Barangay Ginebra, saying he hasn’t spotted any weakness in the Gin Kings’ current lineup.
Barangay Ginebra, Petron Blaze and Rain or Shine are the current front runners in the race for the PBA Philippine Cup, but Guiao said he is particularly awed by the Gin Kings’ chemistry and balance.
He said the addition of twin towers Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter has done wonders for the team.
“Maganda kasi ang chemistry ng Ginebra. Maganda ang balance ng team nila. Dati [Mark] Caguioa lang o [LA] Tenorio lang. Guard-oriented lang sila dati. Ngayon, nag balance na dahil sa dalawang malaki,” Guiao said in an interview with Spin.ph’s Snow Badua.
“Lalong lumalim. Nadagdagan ng dimension yung laro nila.”
The Elasto Painters coach personally scouted Ginebra last Sunday when the Gin Kings were playing against San Mig Coffee.
He believes Barangay Ginebra can take its campaign past the semis and into the finals.
“They are the top team right now and they will contend very prominently sa semis or maybe even sa Finals. All of the teams are really looking at how to beat Ginebra and what their weaknesses are,” Guiao said.
Since he hasn't found a chink in the Gin Kings’ armor, the only thing other teams can do is just improve their respective games so they can contend against the crowd favorite.
“Walang weakness ang Ginebra. Ang puwede mo lang gawin, improve mo lang yung sarili mo.”
