LONDON (UPDATE) -- After suffering a devastating 2nd-round knockout loss in the hands of Manny Pacquiao, Britain's Ricky Hatton will make a comeback to professional boxing this year.

The former welterweight and light-welterweight world champion retired after he was knocked out by Filipino Manny Pacquiao in May last year. He said no opponent or venue had been decided yet.

His only other defeat in a 47-fight career was to Floyd Mayweather Jr but the severity of his second round defeat by Pacquiao led many of his closest acquaintances to urge him to retire.

Despite that advice, Hatton has decided to have at least one more fight.

"I've decided to make a comeback and have another fight this year - probably round about the summertime," he said in his website on Wednesday.

"There's been no opponent that has been confirmed yet. There's been no date confirmed yet. But the point is I have made my mind up I am going to have one more fight." With reports from Reuters and Agence France-Presse
