Marquez may fight Diaz if he fails to get Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines – If he doesn’t get a 4th fight against Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez may headline a boxing card in Mexico in March.
Marquez’s manager Fernando Beltran said the Mexican champion wants another rematch against Pacquiao.
But if it does not materialize, Marquez may go for a tune-up against former Pacquiao foe, David Diaz.
"We would like the fight with Pacquiao but if it doesn't happen, then there is a strong possibility that he'll fight in the new arena with a southpaw like David Diaz,” Beltran said in Boxing Scene.
Beltran said it would be good practice for Marquez since Diaz is a southpaw like Pacquiao.
“We kill two birds with one stone because [Marquez] fulfills his dream of fighting in Mexico City and he would fight a southpaw in preparation for a new fight with Pacquiao," he said.
Marquez earlier said he wants to fight Timothy Bradley if he fails to get the Pacquiao rematch.
But this might change once he gets a fight schedule in Mexico City.
