MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated Mexican boxer Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has reportedly been guaranteed a fight against American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September.

Canelo's manager, Chepo Reynoso, claimed in a Boxing Scene report that their camps have come to an agreement regarding both Alvarez and Mayweather’s fights in 2013.

"(Vice President) Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions came to Guadalajara, and we agreed that Saul and Floyd would share the evening in May," Reynoso said.

"We already reached a financial agreement (for May), and a guarantee that we will face (Mayweather) in September in Las Vegas," he added.

Mayweather is rumored to be fighting welterweight champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero when he returns in May, while Alvarez has no opponent yet.

Mayweather and Alvarez, who are both promoted by Golden Boy, have shared fight cards before. In May 5, 2012, Alvarez defeated Shane Mosley via unanimous decision in the main undercard bout of Mayweather's fight against Miguel Cotto.

Reynoso said Alvarez proved himself as a box-office draw when he defeated Josesito Lopez last September 15 in the main event of a fight card that went head-to-head with Top Rank’s Sergio Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight card.

"The worth of Saul was confirmed by the large attendance at the (MGM Grand), even though on that same day, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fought ‘Maravilla’ Martinez just a few blocks away," Reynoso said.

"In addition, Canelo finished Josesito Lopez with the force that was expected. Mayweather had difficulties in defeating Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto, who even landed some big punches," he added.

"We believe that it is time for Canelo to show what he is made of."
