UFC's Rousey not impressed with GSP
MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s champion Ronda Rousey remains unimpressed with the fighting style of welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (GSP).
Rousey, who has previously called St-Pierre a “boring” champion, told the Las Vegas Review Journal that she doesn’t enjoy watching the Canadian star fight.
“I respect Georges St-Pierre as a businessman and an athlete. I don’t have anything against him personally,” she said. “But he’s not the kind of fighter I like watching.”
“He fights to win matches,” Rousey explained. “He doesn’t fight to defeat his opponents.”
St-Pierre has not finished an opponent since January 2009, when he defeated BJ Penn via technical knockout to defend his welterweight title. Since then, St-Pierre has won five straight fights through decisions.
Rousey said she prefers to watch fighters who have an aggressive style.
“I like fighters that go into it to finish it. They’re not afraid to take risks by saying, ‘I’m going to try to do something crazy, and if I end up in a bad position, I know I can handle it.’ That confidence gets me excited,” Rousey said.
St-Pierre will next defend his title against Nick Diaz, a good friend of Rousey’s. Rousey, meanwhile, will make her UFC debut on February 23 at UFC 157 against Liz Carmouche.
