MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-British striker Phil Younghusband said he was saddened by news that coach Michael Weiss will no longer be part of the Philippine Azkals.

The German tactician is leaving the national team after being with the Azkals for two years.

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has decided to look for another coach who will bring the team to greater heights.

“Siyempre, I'll miss coach Weiss. We had a good relationship with coach,” Younghusband said during the launch of Circuit Makati on Wednesday.

“We had a good relationship, personal and professional. I wish him all the best and good luck for his family.”

The 26-year old said he learned one big thing from Weiss.

“That’s the importance of fitness, the conditioning,” he said. "It doesn't matter how talented you are, or if you have the technical ability, basta kailangan in condition. That's one of the big things I learned from Coach Weiss.”

Younghusband, however, admitted that the team will have to move on with bigger tasks at hand.

The Azkals will be competing at the AFC Challenge Cup main draw in the Maldives in May.

They will also participate at the AFF Suzuki Cup that will take place in Singapore and Vietnam in November.

Younghusband said it will be important for them to win the Challenge Cup, which could lead them to their first appearance at the 2015 Asian Cup.

“’Pag nanalo tayo sa Challenge Cup makakapasok tayo sa Asian Cup and it's the first time the Philippines na malakapasok sa Asian Cup with teams like Japan, South Korea,” he said.

He also hopes that the incoming coach will be able to able to handle the Azkals well.

“Sana he will be a hungry coach. Sana new school, eager to learn at alam niya how to coach in Asia and the Philippines,” said Younghusband. “Kailangan niyang maintindihan ang Philippine football and Philippine coaching.”
