Marquez wants to fight in Mexico City
MANILA, Philipines -- Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez wants to fight in his hometown of Mexico City should a fourth fight against his great rival, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines, not push through.
Marquez was included in Top Rank boss Bob Arum's list of potential opponents for Pacquiao, but the Filipino boxer said that he is aiming to finally fight unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
If Marquez is not chosen as Pacquiao's next opponent, he wants to fight instead in a new arena in Mexico City.
"I would gladly fight in the arena in Mexico City, which is what they are offering me," Marquez told Boxing Scene.
But the Mexican boxer will wait until Pacquiao announces his choice of opponent before making a final decision.
"I want to be guaranteed a fourth fight with Pacquiao. My promoter is waiting to get the last word on Pacquiao. I already submitted my terms," he said.
Marquez has said in numerous interviews that he will only agree to a fourth fight with Pacquiao if the match is held in a venue other than Las Vegas, preferably somewhere in Texas. He said that he has been robbed three times in Las Vegas arenas.
He is also asking for a bigger fight purse.
If a fourth Pacquiao-Marquez fight falls through, Marquez may have his next boxing match in March at the new arena in Mexico City. David Diaz and Lamont Peterson are reportedly being considered as potential opponents for Marquez.
